US stocks tumble as dollar strengthens

FXStreet (Córdoba) - Equities in Wall Street were falling sharply after rising yesterday. European markets finished lower amid fear about economic activity in the region. The FTSE 100 lost 0.78%, the Cac 40 declined 0.65% and the FTSE MIB finished down 1.34%. In the US, the Dow Jones was plunging 1.53%, the Nasdaq was down 1.47% and the S&P 500 was retreating 1.47%.

In the currency market, the US dollar rose on New York and erased most of the pos-FOMC losses; and it was rising even against the yen, despite risk aversion but favoured by rising US government bond yields.

Crude oil slipped further and dropped below $86.00 a barrel while gold was rising modestly, XAU/USD reached $1,233/oz but then pulled back to $1,225.
