Business Climate improves in Germany

FXStreet (Barcelona) - The IFO survey data released by the CESifo group in Germany showed an improvement in the German Business Climate in December.

The IFO Business climate index printed at 105.5, beating the expectation of 105.4 in December. The Expectations index also printed above forecasts at 100.5 in December. Meanwhile, the participants were slightly less optimistic about the current assessment, which printed below the expectations at 110.4.

FOMC plays a neat hand – SG

Kit Juckes, Global Head of Currency Research at Societe Generale notes that the FOMC played a neat hand by calming the markets by removing the “considerable time” phrase and introducing ‘patience’ while lowering the inflation forecasts.

Gael Gunubu of Deutsche Bank notes that overall the FOMC statement and press conference reflected a Fed confident they can start normalising soon as and when data supports it, further observing that the statement led to higher yields, stronger dollar and pushing S&P 500 higher.
