Greek FinMin: Optimistic on deal with EU, even at last minute
FXStreet (Bali) - Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis said on Saturday, via Reuters, that an agreement with the Eurogroup on a new Greek funding deal away from the current toxic bailout would be reach, "even at the last minute", Varoufakis said.
Reuters adds: "Asked in an interview with the Greek daily Kathimerini what would happen if no agreement was reached at Monday's Eurogroup meeting, and whether euro zone finance ministers would meet again in the coming days, Varoufakis said: "Our strong stance, based on logic, will lead to an agreement, even at the 11th hour." Varoufakis said the two sides had agreed on many issues but privatizations and labor issues remained sticking points."
Over the weekend, and as we head into Monday's negotiations, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras was quoted on Germany's Stern magazine as saying that while he expect difficult negotiations, "I am full of confidence" and that "Greece will, in six months' time, be a completely different country..."
