“We will be looking at the Greek proposal carefully” - IMF
FXStreet (Mumbai) - The International Monetary Fund (IMF) spokesperson Gerry Rice said on Thursday, in his regular biweekly press briefing, that IMF has been unable to make an updated assessment on Greek sovereign debt and its financing sustainability status due to the fast-changing environment, amid heated political discussions on the fate of the nation's bailout program.
Rice quoted, "We will be looking at the Greek proposal carefully in the context on the ongoing discussions with the Greek government and European partners, including in the context of the scheduled Euro group meeting tomorrow,"
"Given the election, and the subsequent discussions which are continuing, we've not been on the ground to make an assessment of the Greek economy," calling it a "fast moving and fluid situation" which has meant the IMF has not been able to update its forecast.
All programs can "evolve, change, adapt as it should in line with changing circumstances and positions,"
"This is standard, not just with Greece, to try to be as flexible as possible to serve the needs of our member countries."
