Nikkei sits at fresh 15-year highs, Eisai soars over 20%

FXStreet (Mumbai) - The Japanese equities index opened the week on a stronger note and jumped to fresh fifteen year highs, extending beyond 19700 levels tracking the cues from Wall Street where stocks closed higher on Friday due to a weaker U.S. dollar and rising commodity prices.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index rallies 1.01% at 19756.81 levels, heading towards fresh fifteen year highs of 19778.60 reached in early trades. The index accelerated gains as investors continue to cheer last week's cooling of interest-rate hike expectations by the Federal Reserve.

The index trades with a positive market breadth, the advance-decline ratio being 161:57. Pharma Company, Eisai Co is the top gainer rallying 20.70% after a brokerage upgraded the stock, citing the effectiveness of its drug to treat Alzheimer’s disease. SCREEN Holdings is up 6.29%. Among the top losers, Konami Corp is down -2.48%. While, Nippon Suisan is lower nearly 1.50%.

Nikkei Technical Levels

The index has an immediate resistance stands at 19778. Meanwhile, support is seen at 19584 levels and from here to 19416 levels.
