UK goods trade deficit widened to GBP 10.3 billion in February
FXStreet (Mumbai) - As per the data released by the UK Office for National Statistics (ONS), the goods trade deficit widened by GBP 1.2 billion from January to GBP 10.3 billion in February 2015. Exports fell by GBP 0.9 billion between January and February, whilst imports rose by GBP 0.3 billion over the same period.
Meanwhile, the total trade deficit (in goods and services) for February 2015 widened to GBP 2.9 billion from GBP 1.5 billion in the previous month. This was the largest monthly widening since January 2014. Between January and February, exports decreased by GBP 1.0 billion to GBP 41.3 billion and imports increased by GBP 0.3 billion to GBP 44.2 billion.
In the 3 months to February 2015, the trade in goods deficit between the UK and countries within the EU reached a record high of GBP 21.1 billion, since comparable records began in 1998. The widening of GBP 1.5 billion mainly reflects a 5.6% fall in exports, particularly oil exports.
