ECB to increase ELA ceiling for Greek banks
FXStreet (Córdoba) - The European Central Bank raised the Emergency Liquidity Assistance (ELA) for Greek banks in order to cover liquidity needs for today and until the close of business on Monday.
Reuters sources said the ELA was increased by € 3.3 billion, contradicting FT that stated the ceiling was raised by a smaller amount than the € 3 billion requested by the Bank of Greece. Officials said that the ECB will hold another discussion on ELA for Greek banks on Monday.
Separated news cite ECB sources saying that there is currently no problem with Greek banks funding and that they remain optimistic about Monday's Eurogroup meeting, denying yesterday’s rumors suggesting banks wouldn’t have enough cash to open next Monday.
