Spanish and Austrian Parliaments approve Greek bailout package
FXStreet (Córdoba) - Following Eurozone finance ministers approval of the third Greek bailout on Friday, each member should give national approval. In at least in five countries, the approval requires some level of parliamentary involvement. Those are Austria, Germany, Finland, Estonia and Portugal.
On Tuesday, the Austrian Parliament approved the aid package, that according to EU, has a ceiling of €86 billion. Spain’s Parliament also passed the bailout although it was not technically required. Estonia’s Parliament is due to meet today.
The German Bundestag will hold a debate and vote on the Greek bailout on Wednesday and despite rumors of rebellion within Chancellor Angela Merkel’s CDU/CSU party, the package is expected to pass.
Finland already approved the package as a Parliamentary Committee gave Finance Minister Alex Stubb the mandate to do so. Portugal has not set a date to vote on the bailout programme yet.
Finally, although it is not legally required to hold a vote the Netherlands might as well do so.
