Slovenia's parliament to conduct vote of confidence on Thursday
FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - Greece is not the only Eurozone country to hold a vote of confidence this week, as the Slovenian parliament is also due to conduct one on Thursday. It is expected that PM Alenka Bratusek's center-left government will emerge victorious from the vote.
Slovenia, with its heavily indebted banking sector, has been struggling to avoid asking international lenders for aid. If the government survives the confidence vote, it will proceed with passing amendments to the 2014 budget, aimed at raising funds to prop up state finances. These include introducing changes to the income tax and imposing a new real estate tax.
According to lawmakers from PM Alenka Bratusek's Positive Slovenia party, the amendments are "feasible and maintain the welfare state". The deputees believe that the budget will "convince the financial markets that what we are doing is right and thereby regain trust".
