EU Summit on Brexit: UK plans need to be specified as soon as possible
European Council President Donald Tusk and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker held a joint press conference at the end of the meeting of the EU summit in Brussels, June 28.
Key Remarks:
President of the EU council, Donald Tusk:
The process of invoking article 50 cannot take months. EU leaders want the UK’s plans “to be specified as soon as possible.” Leaders respected the will of British voters in deciding to leave and understood the UK would trigger the exit clause at some point in the near future.
European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker:
“We don’t have months to meditate, we have to act."
"We want the article 50 letter to be sent as soon as possible”
Meanwhile in a separate conference, UK PM Cameron reiterated he will not invoke article 50, it is a matter for next PM, he said.
