US jobless claims rose to 260,000 last week

US initial jobless claims rose by 13,000 to a seasonally adjusted 260,000 in the week ended Oct. 14, the Labor Department said Thursday, slightly above expectations of 250,000 new claims.

Initial claims for the week ended Oct. 7 were revised up by 1,000 to 247,000. Jobless applications rose over the last two weeks after touching the lowest level since Nov 1973 in the week ended Sep 30.

Continuing jobless claims increased by 7,000 to 2,057,000 in the week ended Oct. 7, versus expectations of 2,050,000.
