UN political affairs chief to visit North Korea this week
The United Nations (UN) spokesman Stephane Dujarric said on Tuesday, Jeffrey Feltman, a former senior official of the US State Department will visit North Korea this week, Reuters reported.
His visit will make the highest-level visit by a UN official in more than six years as tensions grip the region over Pyongyang’s nuclear and weapons programs.
Dujarric told reporters: “He will also meet with the United Nations Country Team and members of the diplomatic corps, as well as visit U.N. project sites.”
An official of the US State Department noted: “The United States will continue to work with other countries, including the members of the U.N. Security Council, to increase diplomatic and economic pressure on (North Korea) to convince the regime to abandon its illegal nuclear weapons and missile development programs.”
