Analysts at ANZ explained that the markets focused on upcoming US corporate earnings with a lack of significant data and the US government shutdown largely ignored.
Key Quotes:
"Rosy views on earnings continue to pump up equities, with major US indices lifting 0.3-0.7% to new records and European bourses also lifting 0.3-0.4%.
Energy shares also rose with oil prices continuing to climb as Saudi Arabia and Russia signalled that they may extend production caps into 2019 if a supply glut were to continue.
Elsewhere, the USD was weaker against most. The treasury curve flattened slightly, with 2 year up 1bp and 10 year down 1bp.
In Europe, peripheral spreads widened, with only minor moves in German 10-year bund yields, but falls for Spanish, Italian and Portuguese yields."
