RBA Stevens to be closely monitored by AUD traders - Westpac

FXStreet (Bali) - Sean Callow, FX Strategist at Westpac, shares his thoughts on the Asian session ahead, in which plenty of RBA commentaries are scheduled.

Key Quotes

"Following RBA Deputy Governor Lowe’s big picture comments on CNY earlier, we will see the semi-annual Financial Stability Report (11:30am Syd/8:30am Sing/HK), for a slew of headlines on housing, bank balance sheets, macroprudential measures etc. But the main focus will of course be Governor Stevens’ speech on “The Economic Outlook” at a conference in Hong Kong at 2:30pm Syd/11:30am local."

"The bulk of the speech should be in line with the commentary of recent weeks but given the rise in AUD since Stevens last spoke, any reference to the currency will be scrutinized very carefully. It is a difficult line for Stevens to walk, striking a positive tone on the economy but maintaining the view that AUD is likely to fall over time. Stevens will then join a discussion panel (5pm Syd/2pm local) which could provide further fodder for AUD."
