AUD/JPY Technical Analysis: Testing 81.80, looking for a push higher

  • The past twenty-four hours have seen the AUD/JPY struggle to lift higher from near-term consolidation around the 81.00 to 81.50 zone, although Tuesday's early action sees the pair testing above 81.75.

  • Looking further out, the Aussie-Yen pairing has seen steady gains from recent lows near 78.50 in late October, and the AUD/JPY has bounced firmly to a new trading range after clearing the 200-hour moving average, which now rests near 80.25.

AUD/JPY H1

  • Over the past two months, the AUD/JPY has seen stiff consolidation before breaking forcefully above key resistance levels, and although the pair could be posed for a bearish correction, support for a further move higher could come from the 50- and 200-period moving average crossover from 80.60.
