Canada: Consumer inflation slows in August

Canada’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 1.1% on a year-over-year basis in August, following a 1.3% gain in July, Statistics Canada said Friday, missing expectations of a 1.4% increase. 

On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, the CPI decreased 0.1% in August, after posting no change in July and below the 0.2% rise forecasted by analysts.

The core CPI, which excludes volatile components such as food and energy, rose 1.8% from a year earlier (2.0% expected), following a 2.1% advance the previous month.
