Canada: Retail Sales unexpectedly fell in July

Canadian retail sales fell 0.1% in July to a seasonally adjusted CAD 44.14 billion, Statistics Canada said Friday. Market expectations were for a 0.1% increase.

Sales were down in 5 of 11 subsectors. Excluding gasoline stations, retail sales increased 0.2%. After removing the effects of price changes, retail sales in volume terms were up 0.3% in July.
